Metallographic inlay machine, also known as metallographic specimens, is a type of inlay machine, suitable for thermosetting plastic pressing of tiny metallographic specimens that are not plastic and are not easy to handle. After forming, the sample grinding and polishing can be performed easily, and it is also conducive to microstructure determination under a metallographic microscope. Let’s introduce the working environment requirements and operating procedures of metallographic inlay machines to you. Let’s learn about it together.
1. Working environment requirements of metallographic inlay machine
1. The altitude shall not exceed 1,000 meters;
2. The temperature of the surrounding medium shall not exceed +40 degrees Celsius, and shall not be below -10 degrees Celsius;
3. The relative humidity of the air is not greater than 85% (at 20 degrees Celsius);
4. No obvious vibration or bumps;
5. There is no voltage dust, explosive gas, or corrosive gas that can seriously damage metals and insulation.
2. Operation process of metallographic inlay machine
1. Turn on the power supply and then carry out relevant preparations. You need to check whether the edges of the upper and lower modules are sticky or not, and clean them in time (you can clean the blade, don’t use too much force to avoid scratching the module).
2. If the temperature rises to the set temperature (usually 130~140℃), you can start the subsequent operation.
3. Adjust the handwheel so that the lower mold is parallel to the lower platform; then place the sample observation surface downward at the center of the lower mold, and turn the handwheel counterclockwise for 10 to 12 turns to sink the lower mold and the sample (the height of the sample should generally not be higher than 1cm). Add filler to make it parallel to the lower platform, then press the upper mold on the filler, apply downward force on the upper mold with your left finger. At the same time, turn the hand wheel counterclockwise with your right hand to sink the upper mold to the upper surface below the upper platform.
4. Quickly close the cover plate and quickly turn the octagonal knob clockwise to make the horn on the octagonal knob press against the upper mold, and the feel is slightly stronger. Then, immediately turn the hand turn clockwise and it is time to turn on the pressure light. At this time, add 1 to 2 more turns, and do not add too much. If there is too much pressure, it will be difficult to take samples and collapse.
5. When the insulation display light on the metallographic inlay machine, the sample inlay is successfully inlaid for 5 minutes under normal pressure conditions.
6. The sampling process is, first, turn the handwheel counterclockwise to relieve pressure until the pressure light goes out, then turn it for 3 to 5 turns, then turn the octagonal knob clockwise, push the upper module downward, remove the sample, and then turn the octagonal knob counterclockwise to open the cover.
7. Turn the handwheel clockwise to push the upper mold out. When the lower edge of the upper mold is parallel to the lower platform, use a long wooden block to knock down the upper mold and place the upper mold at the corner of the upper platform on the right side of the inlay machine cavity.
8. Continue to raise the lower mold, and the sample can be taken out completely exposed. The method is the same as the method of taking out the upper mold.
9. Before inlaying each sample, pay attention to cleaning the edges of the upper and lower modules to ensure the smooth inlay.
After understanding the working environment requirements and operating procedures of metallographic inlay machines, operators must use them in accordance with the procedures specifications of the instructions when using the test machine. Otherwise, it is easy to cause dangerous situations such as machine failure and personnel injury.
